Stampin' Up Twitterpated Vintage Tag

Stampin' Up Twitterpated Vintage Tag

The new Twitterpated Product Suite from Stampin’ Up is simply gorgeous!  I created these cute Vintage Tags using the following products from the new Stampin’ Up Occasions Mini Catalog:

These were pretty quick and easy to make!  I inked the edges with Close to Cocoa and added a little lace and some stickles and that was it.  They are available in my Etsy store. Have a great Sunday!

South Florida Weather

I’m sure that for those of you that live “up North”, you’ll find this amusing… We’re getting a cold front here in sunny South Florida this weekend, which means I have an excuse to do any or all of the following:

1.  Stay in my pj’s all weekend

2.  Make soup from scratch or throw something in the crock-pot

3.  Light every candle in the house

4.  Opening ALL of the windows and curl up on the couch with thick blankets and watch Lifetime Television all day

5.  Spend as much time in my studio as I want.

6.  Go for a long walk with my fur-babies

Anyway, I probably will spend a lot of time designing and creating and nesting.  I just got my shipment of the new Twitterpated fabric, designer series papers and some of the newest stamps from Stampin’ Up.  I really love these colors and patterns and can’t wait to get the creative juices flowing; however, I am open to SUGGESTIONS!

Leave me a comment and tell me what YOU would create with these items? I’ll draw a name on Sunday and send the winner one (1) yard of each of the satin ribbon!Stampin' Up Twitterpated West Palm Beach

I signed up for a beginners quilt class at Quilters Quarters.  Sadly, the class doesn’t start until the middle of October.  If you asked, my friends and family would tell you that there is no way I can wait until October. I am both compulsive and impatient when I want to start a new project.  So this morning, as everyone fully expected,  I went in search of some fabric so I can get a proper “head start”.

If you’ve ever walked into a good quilt shop, you know how amazing it is to see all of the wonderful fabrics, not to mention the beautiful quilts that are displayed. It can also be a bit intimidating if  like me, you can barely thread your sewing machine. Having already been to the shop to register for the class, and having managed to not yet make a total fool of myself, I deliberately set out for Walmart instead.

I live in a small town and our local Walmart is probably one of the hot spots for a lot of the folks that live here year round.  To be honest, it was the first time I have ever been there and I was thrilled to see they have a craft department!
I did my usual sweep of the aisles and then stopped and stared at a shelf labeled Charm Packs.  What the heck is a Charm Pack?  A quick glance around confirmed that like most stores, this one is also understaffed. I was either going to figure it out on my own or be forced to actually call someone for help.

It didn’t take long for me to figure out that a Charm Pack is basically pre-cut quilting squares.  These looked to be about 5″ x 5″. I liked the pattern and realized that if the pack only held pre-cut squares, what was I supposed to put on the back of the thing?  Another sweep of the aisles and I found some soft, pink flannel which I guess is what I am going to sew onto the back.

The saleswoman was finally at the cutting table and asked me how many yards I wanted of the flannel. Huh? Yards? What’s a yard?  I told her I’d take two… She clearly realized I was clueless. She then asked me what kind of batting I was going to use and if I wanted to add a coordinating Jelly Roll? I must have looked like a deer caught in the headlights. She rolled her eyes and waved me to a wall that had more quilting stuff on it, and she began helping the next customer.

I went to the shelf, grabbed a round thing labeled Jelly Roll that obviously coordinates somehow with my lovely little Charm Pack, and threw it, and a bag that was labeled “batting”into the cart.

Once I got home, I went directly to YouTube and started watching some videos that attempted to explain, in clear English, the concept of Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls and Batting.

I took another nap, to digest it all, and can now say that I basically get the drift and I know exactly where I’m going to begin…
On October 13th, from 3:00 to 5:30 at the Quilters Quarters.  Until next time…

My new fabric is beautiful!  I decided to go ahead and make this Tote even though the fabric is a little “Christmassy”.  You can use any fabric you choose.  This fabric happens to be 100% which makes it easy to toss in the wash and then just air-dry.

Have fun!

Instructions

  1. Zigzag-stitch sides of the crochet trim together until you have created a big enough piece of fabric to run through a Big Shot.
  2. Run crochet trim “fabric,” beige fabric, and cotton batting through Big Shot using Flower Folds Bigz XL Die cutting one 3-3/4″ flower, one 3″ flower, and one 2-1/2″ flower. Sew crochet trim “fabric,” cotton batting, and beige fabric together to create three 3-D flowers.
  3. Iron Décor Bond to wrong side of each piece of 4″ x 28″ fabric. Fold in half with right sides facing and sew along long sides, making handles the width you desire (ours are 3/4″ wide). Turn fabric; iron flat and top stitch.
  4. Create three ruffles for each side of bag by cutting four layers of each of the Deck the Halls fabric using the Big Shot and Perfect Settings Bigz XL Die (cupcake liner). Sew two ruffles together for each ruffle and sew to each side of the bag.
  5. Sew Chantilly 1/2″ Crochet Trim on the top of the bag.
  6. To create outside bottom of bag, sew a 7-1/2″ x 14″ piece to each side of 10-1/2″ x 14″ piece to create a 14″ x 24″ rectangle. Iron Décor-Bond to wrong side of outside bag bottom.
  7. Iron Décor-Bond on the inside of bag top. Sew bag bottom to bag top.
  8. Fold lining in half and sew the side seams.  Sew across corners at 2-1/2″ to create gusset for the bottom of the bag. Repeat for the outside of bag. Turn outside of bag right-side out and slide lining inside.  Fold the top of the bag down and top stitch closed, adding the handles as you do this.
  9. Crisscross piece of Chantilly 1/2″ Crochet Trim through Big Designer Button.
  10. Attach flower to base of handle using Chantilly 1/2″ Crochet Trim.
